Spiderman Couch

Here are a few more pictures of Jaxon relaxing on his kids Spiderman couch that he got for Christmas. He occasionally likes to sit on the couch, but mostly likes to climb on it and make it flip backwards.

For some reason, Jaxon also likes to eat his stuffed monkey's toes.

Calgary Flames Fan

Jaxon got an official Calgary Flames jersey from Uncle Kris for Christmas. He looks really good wearing it. Here are a few pictures of him showing off the jersey. Maybe he'll grow up to be a hockey player... just don't expect his mom or dad to teach him how to skate though, neither Amanda or I are very good at skating.

Christmas Pictures

The following are a bunch of pictures taken over the Christmas holidays. Christmas was very fun and interesting with Jaxon. It was great seeing him get excited about the empty boxes and discarded wrapping paper more than the toys and presents he was unwrapping. But I guess for a first Christmas it was to be expected. Next year, now that he knows what to expect, I'm sure Jaxon will have a much easier time unwrapping and playing with his presents.

This picture is from when we were going to Heritage Park to see the Nativity pageant put on by the church. It was pretty windy and cold outside so we had to dress Jaxon up in his snowsuit. The suit was so big and puffy that he hardy fit in the straps on his car seat.

On Christmas Eve, we allowed Jaxon to play with one of his presents from Grandma and Grandpa Nelson before we went to Okotoks to Grandma and Grandpa Pisko's house. We also dressed Jax up in his Santa suit to celebrate the Christmas dinner at the Piskos. Jaxon really enjoyed the Tonka truck. It transforms in stages to help Jaxon crawl, walk and ride.

Once we got the my family's house, Jaxon headed straight for the tree and all the presents underneath it. Surprisingly, he didn't want to open the presents, he only wanted to crawl on them.

The unwrapping of presents begins. Only the Grandkids were allowed to open their presents on Christmas Eve. The rest of us grownup kids had to wait until Christmas Day to open our presents.

Jaxon needs to get more practice at opening presents. He would grab the paper and hold on to it, while we turned over his present to rip the paper off... and then he would try to eat the paper.

This is only one half of Jaxon's presents that he opened.

On Christmas morning, we stayed at home and waited for Amanda's brother Kris to come over for breakfast and to open presents. He wasn't planning on coming until 11, but that didn't stop Santa from leaving a present or 2 for Jaxon. Here Jaxon sits on his new little Spiderman couch. It's just his size and...

... it folds out into a bed so he can sleep on it when he naps.

Since we decided that Jaxon would probably destroy our tree if we tried to put it up, we had to improvise for Christmas morning. We crafted a paper tree and taped it to the TV with all the presents loaded on top of the TV stand. It wasn't quite the same as a real tree, but it was festive nonetheless.

Charlene decided that Amanda and I needed to have stockings for Christmas morning, so she sent them (along with the 6 other packages of presents) to us... all the while claiming that she hadn't "gone overboard".

Even with three stockings, I don't think all the presents would fit inside.

Jaxon also seemed to be interested in everyone else's presents and toys and not his own. Here he tries to steal my Nintendo DS games.

Here is Amanda opening box 1 of 2 of her Christmas presents from her parents. They sent her two huge boxes full of kitchen gadgets and utensils.

Here is a shot of the Christmas morning aftermath... the tree had fallen down off the TV to signify the present opening had ended.

Here Jaxon and Uncle Kris are sad that there are no more presents, but happy that they got some good stuff.

Walking Tall Video

I mentioned earlier that Jaxon took his first steps last week. Well now there is video proof of Jaxon walking. Below is a video of several attempts made by Jaxon at walking.

Jaxon in the cupboard

Jaxon likes to play with the cupboard in the kitchen. He really likes to open the doors and see what is inside. If there is something interesting inside, he will play with whatever that is. One of his favorite things to do is open the Tupperware cupboard and pull out all the bowls and lids and throw them on the floor. Well tonight while we were cooking supper, Jaxon decided to investigate into the appliance cupboard. We had emptied out the bottom shelf, since we were using the George Foreman Grill and the deep fryer, and it made a nice little space for Jaxon to investigate. The next thing we knew, Jaxon had crawled completely into the cupboard.

Of course, when events like this happen, you never have the camera on hand. By the time we finally got the camera (and closed the cupboard door to keep Jaxon inside) Jaxon didn't want to play in the cupboard on his own. He needed a little bit of coaxing, so we hid his soother at the back of the cupboard to lure him in. (That kid will do just about anything to get his soother... even walk!)

Walking Tall

Jaxon took his first steps today. I was holding his soother hostage and told him that I would give it to him if he walked to me. He stood for a while, then took three quick steps and lunged towards me to get the soother. It was pretty amazing. Amanda and I both cheered and clapped... and of course we tried to get him to do it again right away, bu he was too tired. But it really wont be long now until he's walking and running everywhere.

Taking a Stand

Jaxon is very quickly learning to stand on his own without holding on to anything. He can manage to keep himself up for 5 seconds or so and then he gets scared and either falls over, or he will squat down to a crawling position.

It won't be too long before he learns that he can take a step and walk... and then we'll never get him to stop.

Santa Jaxon

With the Christmas season approaching, we pulled out the Christmas decorations and started to decorate the house. We decided not to put up the tree this year, because we figured that Jaxon would just destroy it. But we did have other decorations to make the house look a little more festive. While going through the decorations, I found a Santa hat that I won from a party last year, and decided to see what it would look like on Jaxon.

He didn't really like it too much and tried to pull it off his head right away.

We decided that Jaxon needed some really festive clothes to wear for Christmas, so one day while at Wal-mart, we found a really cute Santa outfit that was just Jaxon's size. Here he is the first time we tried it on him.

He didn't like having this hat on his head either, but he didn't seem to mind the rest of the costume, and he does look really festive in it. Now he just needs some reindeer and a sleigh.

Christmas Parties

Tis the season for Christmas parties, and lots of them. This past weekend we had 2 different parties to go to. Friday night was the Cimarron Ward party in Okotoks at the church. The whole family was there including Jaxon's cousins and his aunts Amanda and Mel and his uncle J.P. Here is a picture of Tim with his sister Amanda, his mom and all three of the grandkids, Hayden, Autum and Jaxon.

There was a little room in the church where Santa was sitting and meeting with the little kids. Hayden didn't like Santa and cried as soon as she saw him sitting in the room. As a result, Jaxon got upset and didn't want to sit on Santa's lap. However, they didn't have a problem sitting in the room when Santa wasn't there. Here they are sitting in front of the Christmas Tree. Jaxon only lasted about half a minute before he tried to pull the tree down, and that is why we decided that we weren't going to put up our tree this year.

So on the Saturday after the Okotoks Christmas party, it was the PricewaterhouseCoopers Children's Christmas party, for all the children of employees of PwC. The party was held at the Science Center in downtown Calgary and it was a great time. Jaxon enjoyed being around all the other kids and there were lots of displays and things for him to see and do. I would say he was probably a little too young to enjoy a lot of the stuff, but he really enjoyed rocking out in his guitar.

There was also a really cool section of the floor that had these pads, that when you stepped on them, they lit up and made noises. Jaxon had a good time playing with them, but I think the sounds were too loud for him, because he started to get upset after a while (although that could have just been because he was getting tired.)

All of the children at the party got a present from Santa. Some of the older kids got some really nice gifts, like Spiderman Monopoly games, DVD Clue games, Keyboards, iPod Accessories, etc. Jaxon was sleeping when Santa called his name for his present, so we saved his present for him to open when he got home. Here he is getting some practice for Christmas morning.

At first he just wanted to play with the present while it was wrapped, not knowing that there was something inside.

We had to give him a bit of help to get him to start unwrapping it... and also to keep him from eating the paper that he tore off the present.

For some reason he wasn't as impressed with the present as he was with the paper he tore off the present. He tried to eat it. The present he got was a leaning toy that teaches cause and effect. He presses the button and the little figures pop up. He then pushes the figures back down and starts all over again. He still has some trouble getting the figures to pop up, but he is really good at closing them (that comes from playing with the tape deck on the stereo.)

Picture with Santa

The other night we took Jaxon to the mall to get his picture taken with Santa. We picked a great time to go because there was no one in line in front of us and the whole experience took less than 15 minutes. The mall Santa was great because he had a real white beard and not a fake one. Jaxon wasn't really sure how to handle the whole experience. He didn't cry on camera, but he didn't smile either.
